The Monrovia Consolidated School System is seeking applications from qualified individuals for the position of Assistant Superintendent. The Monrovia Consolidated School System MCSS, provides primary and secondary education to the population of Monrovia metropolitan area. It was established by government in 1964, under an Act to amend the Education Law, to ensure proper and effective conduct of schools in Monrovia and its environs, in consonance with policies and regulations of the Ministry of Education.

MCSS was created by a legislative enactment on December 24, 1964 to ensure proper and effective conduct of schools in Monrovia & its environs in consonance with policies & regulations of the Ministry of Education.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Develop an annual work plan for the instructional department that will include school activities, supervision, refresher workshop/training, etc. for the System.

• Participate in professional organizations, disseminate ideas and information to other professionals, and provide leadership in identifying trends and opportunities, as well as solving problems facing the profession.

• Utilize knowledge of curriculum content and the curriculum development process to facilitate teacher development of appropriate learning experiences for students.

• Administer performance appraisal for all instructional staff directly or indirectly for the betterment of the System periodically, and advance recommendations to the Superintendent for appropriate action.

Technical Duties

• Analyze facility and equipment needs for optimum teaching and learning and utilize information to make necessary changes or adjustments.

• Utilize information provided through formal and informal assessment data and a professional growth plan to improve professional skills and knowledge.

• Use surveys and feedback from others to maintain or create a positive school climate.

• Communicate effectively with staff, students, parents, and the community to ensure that students/ personnel services are in support of the teaching/ learning process across the System.

• Use evaluative findings to determine the extent to which goals and objectives are met.

• Respond appropriately to situations that could impair the teaching/ learning process or could threaten safety and the well-being of students and staff.

• Define the program and fiscal needs in the budget development process, ensuring, that fiscal resources address the mission of the School System as related to the System instructional program.

• Develop, implement and evaluate MCSS essential knowledge skills based on instructional programs with teachers and principals, including learning objectives, instructional strategies, and assessment techniques.

• Work with appropriate staff to develop, maintain, and revise curriculum documents based on systemic review and analysis.

• Facilitate the use of existing technology in the teaching/ learning process. Secure consultants, specialists, and other community resources for principals and supervise instructional staff to assist in training objectives.

• Perform other relevant duties consistent with the functions of the office as may be assigned by the Superintendent from time to time.

Supervisory Functions

• Ensure effective supervision of staff.

• Conduct performance appraisal and provide input for career development and recommend performance incentives for staff

• Ensure that direct reports (subordinates) give account of the performance of assignments in their respective areas of responsibilities.

• Ensure effective supervision of instructional Directors, Coordinators, Supervisors, School Administrators, and Teachers.

Minimum Qualification

• Master’s Degree in Education, Public Administration, or related field from any accredited university.

Work Experience

• At least (5) years of experience in educational leadership, senior management and administration; and having the ability to organize, coordinate and function in a high pace work environment.
